Sir Christopher Bland is currently Chairman of Alcatel-Lucent UK, Canongate Books, Leiths School of Food and Wine and the Royal Shakespeare Company. He was Chairman of BT plc from 2001-2006, and of the BBC Board of Governors from 1996-2001. He has extensive media experience, both in the industry and as a regulator. He was Deputy Chairman of the Independent Broadcasting Authority from 1972 to 1979 and Chairman of its Complaints Review Board during the same period. He was Chairman of LWT (Holdings) plc from 1983–1994, and on the Board of ITN and GMTV. He was Chairman of printers and publishers Sir Joseph Causton and Sons from 1977 to 1985; he was Chairman of the Century Hutchinson Group; a director of National Provident Institution, Storehouse plc and Land Securities plc. He has served as Chairman of NFC plc and of Life Sciences International plc. He has a keen interest in health issues and was Chairman of the Hammersmith and Queen Charlotte’s Hospitals Special Health Authority from 1982 to 1994 and of Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust from 1994 to 1997. He was knighted for his work in the NHS in 1993. He was educated at Sedbergh School, Yorkshire and The Queen’s College, Oxford where he gained a degree in modern history. |
