Channel 5 Broadcasting (United Kingdom) holds the license to operate the fifth, and final, national terrestrial broadcast television channel to be granted in the United Kingdom. Warburg Pincus was invited to become a founding shareholder of this start-up enterprise by a Channel 5 Managing Director, Greg Dyke, with whom Warburg Pincus had worked previously when Mr. Dyke led London Weekend Television. Warburg Pincus provided approximately $66 million to help finance the company at its inception in 1995 alongside CLT S.A. - United News & Media plc, and Pearson plc. Warburg Pincus sold its position to the other shareholders in 2000.
