Cox Insurance Holdings, a London, United Kingdom-based holding company listed on the London Stock Exchange, is an integrated insurance vehicle operating at the Society and Corporation of Lloyd's insurance market. Cox manages two traditional syndicates at Lloyd's for Names (218, a motor syndicate, and 1176, the nuclear syndicate). Cox also manages syndicate 1208 (a commercial lines syndicate whose sole member is Cox Dedicated Corporate Member Limited, a limited liability member of Lloyd's and wholly owned by Cox). Cox was founded in November 1994 and listed on the London Stock Exchange in November 1995. On April 22, 1996, Warburg Pincus became the largest shareholder of Cox through a subscription of new ordinary shares. Through its syndicates, Cox underwrites a spread of short-tail insurance risks in a number of specialist markets, primarily UK motor, general aviation, commercial property, and nuclear power stations.
