Rib-X Pharmaceuticals, Inc., based in New Haven, CT, is a product-driven small molecule drug discovery and development company focused on the structure-based design of new classes of antibiotics for serious infections. Rib-X uses the structural data of the ribosome, which performs an essential role in the process of protein synthesis to design novel, proprietary classes of antibiotics that have a broad-spectrum of activity and are highly effective against antibiotic resistant microorganisms. Rib-X has successfully completed Phase 2 clinical trials for two novel antibiotics against drug-resistant bacteria. Rib-X also has a preclinical program using its technology platform. The Company was founded in 2000 around a scientific breakthrough pioneered at Yale University, the three-dimensional structure of the bacterial ribosome.
Warburg Pincus led Rib-X’s Series B financing in 2003, Series C financing in 2006 as well as a subsequent financing in 2008 to fund the discovery and development of its novel antibiotic candidates.
