Spheris, headquartered in Franklin, Tennessee, is a leading provider of
medical transcription (“MT”) services to over 450 health systems,
hospitals and group practices in the United States and Canada. Medical
transcription is the process of converting physician dictated patient
information into a text format for inclusion in the medical record and
is an integral part of the medical records department for healthcare
providers. Spheris has a network of over 3,800 skilled medical
transcriptionists through the U.S. and Canada and is one of the largest
offshore providers of MT services with approximately 1,200 skilled
medical transcriptionists and a facility in Bangalore, India. Warburg
Pincus invested in Spheris in 2004.
