Tornier, founded in the 1940s and headquartered in Minneapolis, MN, is a leading global orthopedics company. Tornier sells extremity implants, primarily its world-class shoulder implant, in the US and extremity, hip, and knee implants in Europe. The Company's strategy is to become the leading orthopedic company focused on extremities.

In July 2006, Warburg Pincus led an investor group to acquire Tornier from Alain Tornier, the Company’s former President and owner. Concurrently, Warburg Pincus recruited Douglas W. Kohrs, past CEO of former Warburg Pincus portfolio company American Medical Systems, as the new CEO of Tornier. During 2007, Warburg Pincus provided financing for the Company to complete several strategic acquisitions, including Nexa Orthopedics, Axya Medical, and DVO Extremity Solutions, to meaningfully broaden its portfolio of products for shoulder surgeons and other extremity specialists.
