Mattel is the largest manufacturer and marketer of toys in the world. In 1984, Warburg Pincus led a financial restructuring, which was implemented to restore Mattel's financial condition after it had been decimated by losses in its electronics operations. During Warburg Pincus' involvement with Mattel the company evolved from a marginal "hit" dependent business to a genuine consumer products company, with steady growth, substantial profitability, and an extremely high return on capital. In 1994 Warburg Pincus distributed its shareholdings.
