Newfield Exploration (Houston, Texas) is an oil and gas exploration company originally focused on applying advanced exploration technology in the shallow water of the Central Gulf of Mexico. Investing alongside C.E.O. Joe Foster, Warburg Pincus led the first institutional funding of the company in 1990. Newfield became a public company in 1993. Today, Newfield is among the larger independent oil and gas producers in the U.S. with more than 1.8 Tcfe of proved reserves. It operates natural gas and oil properties in the Gulf of Mexico, regions of Oklahoma, Texas, Southern Kansas, New Mexico, the Rocky Mountains and West Texas. Internationally the company also operates in China, the North Sea and Southeast Asia.
