Beijing Lepu Medical Device, Inc. (“Lepu”) is a leading provider of drug eluting stents, devices used in percutanerous transluminal coronary angioplasty surgery to treat coronary heart disease, in China. Its flagship product, the Partner DES, was launched in November 2005 and has since achieved the #2 market position in China, with approximately 25% market share as of the beginning of 2007. Lepu was founded in 1999 by Dr. Zhongjie Pu, a Chinese returnee with U.S. post-graduate education in material science and years of research and development experience with Johnson and Johnson Cordis. Since inception, the company has focused on the development of its own DES, which received Chinese regulatory approval in October 2005. The company also has a small portfolio of various angioplasty-related accessories and ICU anesthesia accessories.
