StorageMart, located in Columbia, Missouri, was formed in 1999 to
acquire and develop self-storage facilities in the United States. Prior
to starting StorageMart, the management team was responsible for
building Storage Trust Realty, a company that was in operation since
1972, went public in 1994 and was acquired by Public Storage (the
largest company in the industry) in 1999, when it operated 237
facilities located primarily in the Midwest and Southeast. Warburg
Pincus originally committed up to $50 million to the company in 1999.
In 2001, based on the company’s progress in developing and acquiring
assets in several key markets, Warburg Pincus increased its commitment
to up to $100 million in order to fund the future growth of the
company. StorageMart's goal is to build a premier self-storage company
through the acquisition and development of high quality facilities in
infill locations in key markets.
