Warburg Pincus invested in Aegis in 1988. At the time, Aegis was the leading independent media buyer in Western Europe, buying approximately 10% of all European advertising, and was listed on the London Stock Exchange. In 1992, Warburg Pincus became the company's largest shareholder and led a significant refinancing of Aegis. Today, Aegis Group plc is the holding company for Carat, Media Marketing Assessment and Market Facts – leading companies in providing media communication services, marketing consultancy and market research. Listed on the London Exchange, the company is capitalized at around £2 billion, and operates in 37 countries with its three main businesses. Warburg Pincus sold its interest in 1998.
