LWT (London Weekend Television) was a United Kingdom television broadcast company. In 1988, Warburg Pincus invested in LWT through open market purchases. Warburg Pincus believed that LWT presented the most attractive investment opportunity in the sector due to the company's excellent management team, focus on the attractive London market, strong assets (property and program rights), and favorable outlook for its impending license renewal process. Shortly after this initial investment, Warburg Pincus significantly increased its ownership in the company. In addition, the firm supported a leverage recapitalization of LWT and a broad management incentive plan that was at the time unusual for United Kingdom. Warburg Pincus exited its investment in 1994 when the company was acquired by Granada plc.
