StarMedia is an Internet service company focused on the Latin American market. The company operates the StarMedia Network, a leading Internet portal in Latin America, providing service in both Spanish and Portuguese. The Network offers communication services (such as e-mail, bulletin boards, and chat rooms) and integrates content, e-commerce, and communication services into branded channels focused on news, finance, technology, entertainment, sports, and other subjects of popular interest. Warburg Pincus invested $23.0 million in StarMedia in mid-1998. The Company completed an IPO and a follow on equity offering during 1999, raising more than $300 million.
