Arcaris, based in Salt Lake City, is an early-stage "genomics" company focused on the discovery of novel, gene-based targets for pharmaceutical therapy. Arcaris was founded in 1996 by Dr. Alexander Kamb, formerly of Myriad Genetics, with the goal of creating a system to discover and validate gene-based drug targets more quickly and far less expensively than is possible using conventional methods. Arcaris's system represents the elegant integration of existing molecular biology technologies into a unique and powerful system that holds the potential to deliver validated drug targets in a high-throughput fashion. Arcaris is also applying its powerful system to other conditions including diabetes and infectious diseases. Warburg Pincus led Arcaris' first and second rounds of institutional financing and was the company's primary financial partner until it was acquired by Deltagen in 2001.
