Craegmoor, headquartered near Birmingham, United Kingdom, was founded in March 1994 by Warburg Pincus and management to build a nursing home and specialized long-term care services company in the U.K. Craegmoor initially focused on building its business via acquisitions and then subsequently expanded its operations by acquiring and building purpose-built facilities in selected markets, and building and acquiring specialized long-term care facilities (mental illness and physically handicapped care) under long-term contracts from local governments and the National Health Service. Following our initial investment, Craegmoor acquired nursing homes and specialized long-term care facilities comprising 4,250 beds. Craegmoor was the largest provider of such specialty care in the U.K when it was sold in 2001.
