Warburg Pincus made its initial investment in Arjo in 1991 in a recapitalization transaction. The company, headquartered in Sweden, was the worldwide leader in patient hygiene and lifting equipment used in nursing homes and hospitals. Warburg Pincus facilitated the company's initial public offering in 1993 on the London and Stockholm exchanges. Getinge, the leader in Europe in sterilization equipment for hospitals and pharmaceutical companies, acquired Arjo in a merger transaction at the end of 1995. Warburg Pincus sold its position in Getinge in June 1996 through an institutional placing of shares.
