Ceres, Inc. is a Thousand Oaks, California-based agricultural biotechnology company that develops proprietary seeds and plant traits for nonfood, dedicated energy crops to be used as feedstock in first generation sugarcane ethanol refineries, second generation cellulosic ethanol refineries and co-fired power production. The company focuses on germplasm and trait development research, seed production and commercial marketing of high-yielding plants under the "Blade" brand name.
The management team is led by CEO Richard Hamilton, who has been with the company since 1998 and has significant biotechnology experience.
Warburg Pincus invested in Ceres in September 2007. In February 2012, Ceres successfully completed its IPO on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange (NasdaqGM: CERE).
