Bill Barrett Corporation is an independent oil and gas company exploring for hydrocarbons in the Rocky Mountains. Based in Denver, Colorado, the company's strategy is to develop a strong exploration program and complement it with acquisition and exploitation opportunities. Warburg Pincus led the company's $283 million equity financing in 2002. Bill Barrett, the company's chief executive officer, is a veteran in the energy industry with over 50 years experience in the sector. He recruited to Bill Barrett Corporation many of the executives who were instrumental in creating Barrett Resources, a company Barrett formed in 1981 and which was sold to The Williams Companies in 2001 for $2.8 billion. Over the last three years, the company has built meaningful acreage positions in several basins throughout the Rockies, including the Wind River, Uinta, Powder River and Piceance basins. In 2004, the company successfully completed its initial public offering on the NYSE raising approximately $350 million in proceeds. The company continues to develop its properties and evaluate additional opportunities in the Rockies.
