Bill Barrett Corporation is an independent oil and gas company exploring for hydrocarbons in the Rocky Mountains. Based in Denver, Colorado, the company's strategy is to develop a strong exploration program and complement it with acquisition and exploitation opportunities. Warburg Pincus led the company's $283 million equity financing in 2002. Bill Barrett, the company's chief executive officer, is a veteran in the energy industry with over 50 years experience in the sector. He recruited to Bill Barrett Corporation many of the executives who were instrumental in creating Barrett Resources, a company Barrett formed in 1981 and which was sold to The Williams Companies in 2001 for $2.8 billion. In 2004, the company successfully completed its initial public offering on the NYSE raising approximately $350 million in proceeds.
