Tornier (NASDAQ: TRNX), founded in the 1940s and based in Grenoble, France, is a leading global orthopaedics company. Tornier sells extremity joint implants, primarily its world-class shoulder implant, in the United States and extremity, hip and knee implants in Europe and Asia. The company’s strategy is to become the leading orthopaedic company focused on extremities.
In July 2006, Warburg Pincus acquired Tornier from Alain Tornier, the company’s former President and owner. During 2007, Warburg Pincus provided financing for the company to complete several strategic acquisitions to broaden its portfolio of products for shoulder surgeons and other extremity specialists. On February 2, 2011, Tornier completed its initial public offering (IPO) on NASDAQ, raising $180 million in gross proceeds. On October 4, 2012, Tornier completed its acquisition of OrthoHelix, an innovative high-growth orthopaedics company focused on lower extremity products.
