Currently headquartered near Atlanta, CoalTek is an early stage technology venture with an innovative process using microwave energy to increase the BTU per unit weight of coal while reducing its moisture and sulfur content. CoalTek converts low-grade raw coal to resemble high-grade coal at its commercial processing facility at the Calvert City Terminal in Kentucky. WP IX and a consortium of venture capital firms invested in CoalTek from 2005 to 2007.
