Allied Clinical Laboratories, Inc. was formed in 1989 by Warburg Pincus and the company's management through the acquisition of Hospital Corporation of America's clinical laboratory testing subsidiary. This was used as a platform to consolidate the clinical lab business and to take advantage of the synergies and economies of scale that could be achieved through merging competing labs. Allied went public in 1990 and was sold to National Health Laboratories in 1994, at which point it was the sixth largest clinical lab in the US. Much of Allied's success was the result of its excellent management team, led by the CEO Haywood Cochrane, with whom we are working again.
