Metropolis Healthcare Limited, headquartered in Mumbai, India, is one of three leading chains of pathology laboratories in India. The business was founded by Dr. Sushil Shah, a well-regarded pathologist, in 1981 as a reference laboratory in Mumbai undertaking specialized tests for other laboratories. Over time, it acquired a dozen smaller laboratories, typically leaders in their respective markets, to become a national player. The company currently has a network of more than 50 laboratories in India and has presence in Sri Lanka, the United Arab Emirates and South Africa.
