HD Plus, headquartered in Portland, Oregon, is the leading private company developing innovative dialysis solutions. The company’s novel home dialysis system offers a paradigm change for patients suffering from End Stage Renal Disease, a life-threatening chronic condition affecting over 400,000 people annually in the US. The HD Plus system uses proprietary microfluidic technology, licensed from Hewlett Packard and similar to that used in inkjet printers, to enable dialysis at home in a low cost, patient-friendly manner. Unique features of the HD Plus system allow patients to perform dialysis while sleeping, dramatically improving patient quality of life and potentially improving clinical outcomes. HD Plus is currently in product development and expects to initiate clinical trials in 2012.
In 2010, Warburg Pincus led a Series A investment in HD Plus. Subsequently, Warburg Pincus provided additional growth capital as well as ongoing strategic support to drive the development and commercialization of the company’s dialysis technology.
