Santander Consumer USA, Inc., headquartered in Dallas, Texas, is the largest independent non-prime auto finance company in the U.S. The company, which began originating loans in 1997, has a managed loan portfolio of more than $20 billion and relationships with over 13,000 automotive dealers in the U.S. Warburg Pincus acquired an 8.5 percent stake in Santander Consumer USA from Banco Santander in 2011. Banco Santander continues to hold a 65 percent stake in the company following the transaction.
