MEG Energy Corp. is a Calgary, Alberta-based oil exploration and production company focused on developing oil sands in the Athabasca region of northern Alberta using the Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) process. The company is focused on further expanding its commercial phase production capacity and mitigating production and operating cost and reliability risks.
MEG is led by CEO Bill McCaffrey, who previously led the development and construction of the Primrose thermal recovery project.
Warburg Pincus led an initial equity financing into MEG in March 2004 and has since led a number of follow-on financings. In July 2010, MEG successfully completed its IPO on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX: MEG). Following the offering, Warburg Pincus remains the largest shareholder in MEG.
